Extreme Kitchen Makeover In West Toronto - By J.Roberts and Associates

Toronto Kitchen Renovation

This project was a major kitchen renovation to a house in West Toronto. It was built circa 1937 of mason construction, plaster and lathe interiors and single strand electrical.

The kitchen project was to construct a new ,old-styled 8’ x 14 ‘ galley kitchen. The construction schedule was set at 8 weeks from start to finish. The house was prepared for demolition then gutted back to brick walls. New framing was installed on exterior walls to accommodate electrical, insulation and cabinet installation. Ceiling and walls were insulated and sealed, as there never was any insulation before. All knob and tube wiring was removed and new electrical installed for kitchen and appliances.

Plumbing lines were moved to new locations and a large duct was installed for a cooktop exhaust hood. We cut through the exterior brick wall ( 9” thick ) to install an insulated door with beveled glass window. ( It actually sparkles in the morning sun ).

A sturdy set of stairs had to be built as we could only bring appliances in through this door. The cabinets were designed to fit in the era of original construction, from the door style to the butler’s sink on the exteriors but totally customized on the interiors to aid in daily usage. I took the client to hand pick the granite and lay-out the countertop templates on the slabs to maximize the character of the granite. After the sand blasted glass panel was installed you could see daylight from the front door to the new back door. My client was great to work with, had a great sense of humor and this is our third project. The job came in on time and on budget, a very successful project.

Client's Testimonial

"Jeff Roberts is a craftsman! My kitchen reno this spring, was the 3rd project completed by J. Roberts & Associates. All aspects of the reno were handled with total professionalism from the architectural drawings to making a wide window sill level for placement of a decorative object. The owner of the company, Jeff Roberts, is actively involved from the design to the physical labour. He is always open to ideas and is intuitive of a client's needs/wants. Friends and family who have seen the completed kitchen are blown away by both the beauty and the practical use of space. The previous two projects were first a total basement reno 8 years ago, with a bathroom installation that has a definite 'WOW' factor. The second was a total gut and rebuild of a very, very tiny 2nd floor bathroom 5 year ago, that still brings a feeling of calm and happiness just looking at it. I have been so pleased with Jeff's work, I have recommended him to several people including my Mother!"
