What is the code for the height of a railing/guard for interior stairs and 2nd floor balcony in Guelph ON?

Good morning Andrew

Double check with your city planning department.

Interior stair railing heights are at 35.5" to 38" and 2nd level deck railing is 42"

Hi Dave,

Thank you for a prompt reply. The balcony railing is an interior balcony. Does that make a difference?

I have been checking friend's stairs/balcony railings and most of them are in the 36" range but the houses are all 5+ yrs old. Even the interior balcony railings are 36" high.

Hi Andrew

The railing should be at 42" high for a 2nd story interior hallway or loft that over looks the 1st floor.
