We are considering a steel roof, however, I cannot find anything that confirms a steel roof will add value to our home.

Do you know of a Canadian site that provides this information?

A steel roof is great and worth the money. However they are like new windows, you will never get your money back if you are planning on selling. If you are going to move soon and are worried about your return on investment, then go with a convenional roof.

Steel roofs are nice for a few years until the paint comes off and looks bad. Roofs are never lifetime. Tar shingles are common and easily replaced after 15-25 years, Wood shinglessplit and will need replacing.

If your roof structure will hold, the only lifetime roof is clay tiles (like in Europe) they last hundreds of years, but in Canadian cold, may not be the best to avoid cracking (and very very costly).
