After my shower is run for minute, it emits a loud, high-pitched sound that continues until the shower is turned off.

What causes this and how do I fix it?

You could try changing the cartridge.....this will usually rectify the problem.

I was recently in a hotel, and the shower in my bath made noises shortly after using it. This noise was caused by the shower head after it was getting warm. As soon I turned the shower head to change the water jet, the sound disappeared for a while. This head was just plugged.

It could be water hammer and if it is so attend it at your earliest possible opportunity as eventuly it will open from nearest joint and start leaking,

Call some qualified plumber and let him review the situation.
