Question: Foundation repair for a home built in 1914

I am planning extensive renovations to my home that was built in 1914. I want to ensure the foundation is in the best possible condition before I begin anything else.

There are a few visible cracks in the concrete foundation as well as a small amount of water that can be seen in one of the corners of the basement where some of the river rock has come loose. There is also some sloping of the main floor towards the center of the home.

In your opinion would repairing the foundation by putting in a weeping tile system and replacing the teleposts be a worthwhile investment if I intend on living here long term or would you anticipate problems to continue occurring?

Hi Jenn:

I would contact a structural engineer or a contractor that specializes in older homes like yours.

I believe it is doable but only a licensed professional can make that determination about your house for you.
