Having consulted four different painting companies I am getting confusing results on which paint is best for our damp climate.

I would appreciate a statistical information on which gives the best quality for the money and durability.

Thank You.

Hi Rudi,

Ah, Vancouver. Our lovely rainforest in the Pacific NorthWest. You are wise to be concerned about the brand of paint you are using on your home. It can make a big difference in the longevity of your paint job. The type of paint you use will depend greatly on what your house is made of (stucco, wood siding, etc).

We use a lot of Cloverdale Paint because of the excellent performance/price combination. Cloverdale Paint is a local company that develops paints specifically for our climate so it is very well suited for exterior painting in Vancouver.

If you are actually applying the paint in less than stellar conditions and are worried about moisture, Sherwin Williams Resilience is an excellent product. We have had excellent results with it.

Every paint has a technical sheet on it and they list conditions for application and performance. Comparing them might help you narrow down your choices but probably the best place to get advice is from a reputable, professional painter that can show you houses similar to yours that he has painted.

Good luck with your painting project.
