On average your looking at around $3.50sq/ft. This of course will vary from who you speak to. Be careful to not always go with the lowest quote. Check for proper insurance, company/contractor history, do the workers have background checks done on them, get 2-3 quotes, ask for references.

Hi Ali from Missauga,

You said you were wondering what it would cost to change your hardwood? First question is what do you have now? Hardwood flooring can run from approx. 2.00 /sq.ft to skys the limit., installation on a basic install with floor ready to go will run about 1.80 to 4.00 sq.ft depending on how many doorways, trans. strips. underlayment , etc.

In your case for a basic install which means you probably have carpet, lino,or similiar that you want replaced, you could probably expect to pay about 1.00 s.f for prep and about 2.50 install so that would work out to about 3500.00 labour for 1000 s.f.

Hope this answers your question.

We need more info about what the existing flooring in the room or rooms, and sub-floor condition etc.

Lets assume that the old flooring is removed and sub-floor is level and in good shape. Typical cost is about 2.5 labour + hardwood.

As others have stated flooring varies but for most people I use a $7/sqft cost as a round figure. This will get you an entry level floor probably in the colour close to what you desire. Ball park 7,000.

You could pay $2.00 to $2.50 per square foot for installation plus the hardwood depending on what you buy. If there are repairs to the subfloor required, that may run you extra, but general reinforcing and rescrewing of the subfloor to eliminate squeaking is standard and included in the price of installation.

Ask how much extra it is to tear out and dispose of carpet or any pre-existing floor - usually $200. Installing baseboards and quarter rounds can be upwards of $1.00 per linear foot.
