Cape Breton Regional Municipality is situated at the top end of Nova Scotia and takes in the old County of Cape Breton: Sydney, Sidney Mines, New Waterford, North Sydney, Dominion and Louisbourg. With the closure of the cod fishery, the Devco mining operation and Sydney Steel, Cape Breton suffered a ten year decline in the economy that turned around in 2002 when the effects of tourism and other industry immigration took effect.
