We had our basement completely finished last summer by Adam and Bay Hill Contracting. In all counts, we are very happy with the end results. Adam was wonderful at making suggestions and is very creative - taking pride his workmanship. As renovations can be difficult - it was appreciated that Adam and his workers were careful to clean up every day and were always courteous and extremely friendly in our home. We had a basement leak to address as part of the job, and then another area of the basement started to leak as well - quite significantly. Our roof leaked in the spring and after several days of heavy rain we experienced significant water damage to our attic, master bathroom ceiling and kitchen ceiling below. BayHill inspected the areas, replaced insulation in the attic, installed a new vapour barrier and dry walled and painted the damaged ceilings. When the work was completed the ceilings looked great; you couldn't see the areas where the repairs had been made. The contractor was very professional and great to work with, always on time, reliable and they cleaned up. We needed our basement renovated to proper living quarters for my daughter and my grandchildren which included a full bathroom, kitchen, livingroom, and three full bedrooms. We obtained three estimates from three different contractors and interviewed all three contractors. After doing so we went with BayHill Quality Contracting. Adam was able to come up with a number of ideas and designs which we had not thought of. Who installs the windows in a new house construction?
Does the framer install windows in a newly constructed home, or would this be done by a window installer?

Building a cottage
Wow! I can't believe how hard it is getting information from contractors on building a cottage. I have left messages, emails and even text messages. Can anyone steer me in the right direction for building contractors in the area. As well, I need help as I cannot use an of the shelf blueprint as they are not appropriate for my situation, I cannot locate anyone in that respect either. Thanks in advance

Hi Alex, As for the design, many General Contractors that do Design / Build work will be able to accommodate all of your needs or you can retain the services of your own Architect or Architectural Technologist, you can check this site or have a look at their respective organizations on line. As for foundations, be very careful to look into the Municipality that you are going to be building in. They have very strict rules as to location from water, placement of septic systems and even the type of foundation they will permit. While these sound obvious, I have encountered situations where recent revisions to municipal codes prohibited the replacement of a derilict septic system because of the size and geography of the lot on Lake Scugog. A very specialized system had to be designed to accommodate this situation. In several cases in Muskoka, full foundations were required. All of this information can be obtained from the Planning and Building Department in the Municipality in which you plan to build. I encourage you to post it on this system and I am certain Contractors will respond, I will be one of them. Good luck. Jason
