I hired them to finish my basement recently. They did wonderful job within the time frame in a very tight budget. They cleaned up very well. When I found a few small defects after they finished the whole basement, I called them and they came right away to fix the problems in a couple of hours. Cottage Foundation or piers?
Were in the process of deciding to buy a lakefront fixer upper cottage or lakefront land. The fixer upper will actually be teared down and replaced with a prefab. I would like to know if its worth putting a crawl space foundation or piers, the cottage will be used has a 3 season but will be constructed for 4. The location is rocky. Thanks for any info.

Levelling concrete floor
Is it cheaper to hire a concrete company to level a concrete floor, or to DYI using concrete levellers? I have to level the concrete sub-floor in a 14' x 30' room.

Thanks James. Yes, I did consider self-levelling concrete, but apparently it's not that simple. I am pretty handy, but I have read horror stories about people spending a lot of $ on self-levelling concrete products only to hire someone to come deal with the resulting mess. If it was just a small area (e.g., 2' x 2') I'd attempt to do this myself. But I'm dealing with a much larger area that would probably require a fair amount of skill to trowel etc. From what I understand, despite what the self-levelling concrete packages may say, the concrete does not actually get all that level. I should probably note that I am not installing tile (where the adhesive can accomodate a floor that is slightly uneven) nor a floating floor. We are putting in synthetic ice, so apparently the subfloor has to be very smooth. Sigh.
