Mark finished our basement for us with a full bathroom, one bedroom, a laundry room and two storage rooms. He did a great job for us and we are very happy with his work. We were given this companies name by an electrical contractor and as we were new to Guelph and did not have anyone to recommend someone we decided to use this company. We needed them to go in to repair any damage after a re-wire of the house we bought and we have since found out that the price that they charged us would have paid for the whole house to have been completely dry-walled! We had a problem about 3 months down the line to which Tom (the owner) attended and could not understand why it had happened - he could not understand why it had happened but he DID know it was NOTHING to do with what they had done, refused to correct it unless we paid another $500, we of course refused. Railing Height For Interior Stair and Balcony
What is the code for the height of a railing/guard for interior stairs and 2nd floor balcony in Guelph ON?

Hi Andrew The railing should be at 42" high for a 2nd story interior hallway or loft that over looks the 1st floor. Thanks, Dave

I would like to remove one of the posts that support the structural beam in my basement to open up the area, my question is can I increase the strength of the original beam or can I replace part of the original beam that is goinig to cover the span. The span is about 14'

You can get a beam sized by your local building supply store. They will require a bit more information though...span, tributary width (this is the width of joists that crosses the beam to the next support on both sides of the beam), any point loads from above(existing walls and columns that support uppper structure)...if unsure of any of these or their location, please consult an engineer.
