Project Title: New rear yard deck
Type: Residential
Location: Newmarket, Ontario
Main concern: Quality
Budget: $5,000 - $20,000

Project Description:
This is a small new Townhouse being constructed in Newmarket. It is 18' wide at the rear, outside measurements. I'm looking to build a rear yard deck approximately 12' wide X 12' deep. Open for suggestions as to size. The walkout from the patio door is approximately 2 &1'2 above ground level. While I have been sketching a design I am looking for ideas. I would prefer the flooring to be acomposite material but may not be able to afford it. We like the idea of having a seat with a back built around part of the deck at the south end next to the adjoining fence and at the end of the deck closest to the rear fence. The rear yard is 18' deep by 40' wide at the rear and tapering down to approximately 28' at the rear of the house. The yard is tol be fenced in by the builder and will have a gate to enter the backyard just north of the north wall of the house. If you have an interest are are willing to supply an estimate. We expect to take possession of the house July 12/12 so this would be the earliest any construction could begin.

Review Posted by Doug

Mike at M2R was a great fit for our just-moved-in renovations. He was able to come up with suggestions other contractors did not take the time to think about and his suggestions almost all fit with our own ideas. Within budget results that we are very satisfied with. We will be looking to work with Mike on our other renovations projects.

We are very pleased with the entire renovating process that we went through with Mike from M2R Enterprises. We had our entire basement finished with a large bathroom, game area, and entertainment area. We also planned for a bar that was simply not in the budget at this time (we will have Mike back to do that in the future). From the first meeting for a proposal and quote we could tell that Mike was someone that we wanted to deal with. Mike went over several planning and design details that we had not even considered which made the project much better than we could have imagined. Mike provided a thorough quote detailing each stage in the construction. He also presented the best payment structure of any contractor that we contacted for a quote and remained on budget f...more

Refinishing pine (tongue and groove) flooring
I have a customer who wants me to refinish her pine plank floors. The planks were installed about 10 years ago and were urethaned without stain. My question has to do with the gaps/spaces between the planks. The customer wants to minimize or eliminate the gaps. Any suggestions as to how best to do this? She likes the natural look of the wood so wants me to strip and re-urethane. Thanks All. Brett

If you go to an actual hardwood flooring store, they sell a semi-liquid wood filler. You can get it in different shades or tint it to the colour you want. After your first sanding, you install it similar to grouting a tile floor, then lightly sand. Sorry I can't remember the brand name, it's been a while since I used it.

Air vent pipe or water pipe?
I have someone who wants me to frame in their basement. There is the rough in for a sink and toilet. The person wants me to remove and cap both so that flooring can be laid down eventually. Actually, the toilet one is already capped and my question is about the black plastic pipe for the sink. Sorry I don't have a good pic. What I am trying to determine is if the smaller balck pipe that comes out of the floor and then disappears into the ceiling (there is a capped pipe coming out the side of this one which I assume is the drain for the sink) is simply for air venting or if it is in use for another drain somewhere else in the house. I can't hear anything (ie water) when other sinks are turned on. How can I determine the function of the pipe?

Thanks guys. I will be in touch with a plumber ASAP. Better safe than sorry!
