Building a patio using 20x20x1 1/2 slabs
How deep do I need to excavate and should I fill in with A - gravel or sand? The area is about 10' x 30'. Thanks

The Latest Reply

There is a lot of different methods. I would go down 12" ( 18" would be better ) fill it with what's called 3/4" crusher run, compacting every 2". The top 1" you can use sand or crushed limestome. This alows you to level each stone easily and has good drainage, so frost won't be a problem. Fill in the gaps between the stones with sand or poly sand if you don't want to worry about weeds.

Insulating a water heater flue
The water heater flue going through the ceiling into the attic is in a large square shaft, wide open into the attic. What is the proper way of insulating this space? Can I use the mineral insulation (Rocksul) to stuff around the flue? Thanks for your help.

The Latest Reply

Mineral wool insulation is usually used, however I would check with the manufacturer of the flue pipeing and the heater first, to see what they recomend and allow. Better safe than sorry.
