Project Description: Bascially, would like a bigger kitchen, by extending the wall of the house, 12 feet by 10 feet approx. I was told that the extension can be done with a basement room, or, by digging only 5 feet or so for a foundation, i.e. no additional room underneath the extension. House was built in 1997, very good condition. Space the extension would occupy is empty backyard space, currently just grass area. Current kitchen wall would be "removed", and the entire new kitchen would be remodelled.

This is the type of contractor Mike Holmes is always talking about, owner never on the job site , his men would maybe show up to-day , maybe tomorrow 2-4 hour days, always missing material, rough in carpentry was done from the wrong set of plans,(used of plans supplied by his truss man) not our engineered approved plans, supplied to the city for the permit, cannot measure trusses for the addition over the garage, new trusses were 12" to high, works in phases, his sub-contractors never had material the owner supplied all material from plastic bags and so on and so on. Hunter Construction did a great job. I was leary at first about hiring a contractor but Neil really impressed me. I had received 3 other quotes for my basement reno, but as soon as Neil came by I knew he was the guy for the job. He was on time and totally on budget. He'a also very flexible and gives great advice. I wouldn't hesitate for a second recommending him to anyone.

Neil gets top mark in all catagories. The total rennovation of our main bathroom was done exactly as promised, on budget, in a timely manner and at a quality level that is truly impressive. We enjoy showing off this rennovation to friends and family and recommend Hunter Construction without reservation.

Making an old home look new again
I would like to know if it is advisable to have someone come in and do some drawings of what we can possible do to our home before getting prices from contractors. We are thinking about changing the layout, finishing the basement, adding a second floor balcony, changing the exterior look etc...

Condo kitchens
I am a small kitchen cabinet builder in quebec for the past 20 years. I recently took a contract to build 19 condo kitchens. They were supposed to be custom kitchens. One at a time over about a year or so. After they missed numerous installation dates and kept me waiting 8 months, they finally were ready bit expected me to do 6 custom kitchens in 8 weeks. Add to that that they are giving me the runaround for payment now that I am almost done. I no longer trust that I will get paid. What are my options to try and get paid? I can't afford extensive court costs but is a contractors lien a possibility? If anyone knows the laws in Quebec, please enlighten me.
