Scarborough - Ideal Tile & Carpet Hardwood Flooring - located in Scarborough
Review Posted by Tina
December 2010 I researched new flooring for my condo. As a single parent value and durability were key. I went to several stores and was advised pretty much the same thing, that I would have to go with laminate in my condo in order to avoid the discolouration caused by the intense sunlight from the floor to ceiling windows. I was told that discolouration would not happen with laminate. I opted to purchase what was sold me as “high end laminate with a 30 year warranty” by a local flooring retailer. A 13.3mm thick product made by Canadian Standard, Colour Name: Bolivian Rosewood. I was told it would last for years – within four months I noticed that it was turning white! A few boards at first but now every room is affected. The stunning dark colour is faded,...more

Button's Heating Inc. - located in Scarborough
Review Posted by Ted
We got a couple quotes for a new install of a high eff furnace, a/c, power vented hot water heater, air filtration system and humidifier. Button's Heating did a phenomenal job in all respects, from sales, installation and follow up. Todd's no pressure sales approach made us feel very comfortable and was able to meet with us despite our children's busy sports schedules. He explained everything in detail from the equipment to the government rebates that we are going to get. Always on time and always on point from the sales meetings to the installation days and follow up meeting. Even when our peaksaver thermostat was acting up they even called the peaksaver tech for us and waited for their service tech to come and fix the thermostat to make sure our w...more

General Cost of Basement Renovation
Storey and half house in Bluffs area - built around 1950.
Goal: renovation of basment - insulate if needed, new floors, new drywall and ceiling - including laundry area and stair area. Approximately 600 square feet.
Quoted $20,000 - is this an appropriate estimate?
Can't I get a basic, quality job for around $10,000 - from a experienced renovator?

Hi Laura, I would say that is about as cheep as you are going to get for a basic good job. Typical basement renos will cost anywhere from $30-$65 / ftsq depending on the quality, finishes, bathroom addition, and many other different variables. Just make sure you do your homework on the company before starting to make sure they are licensed, insured and qualified. always ask for some references. You should feel comfortable with them as well. I would be worried if you would be spending less than what you had been quoted because the contractor would be working for peanuts and I wouold worry about the quality of work. Hope this helps. Hi Nandita, we can't see what you are seeing so would need a lot more information and possibly some photos to help you out with this one. If you have a tile surround, at least the bottom few rows are going to have to come out to allow the tubs to be removed. If there is damage to the walls under the tiles, this would have to be repaired before the new tubs could be put in place. The plumbing would have to be inspected and probably updated as well. You should put your requirements in the "post your project" section so you can get some local contractors to come and have a look at your situation. Good Luck with it!
