We utilized PaMar's services for a new roof and received EXCEPTIONAL service from beginning to end. Samples were provided to us to make an educated decision about the products available, colour selection, etc. The workers were on time, clean, courteous, and completed the work within the time specified. Outstanding quality of work and a great warranty. We'd use PaMar again, hands down!!

Removing steel beam
Our bungalow seems to have an over abundance of steel beams in the basement and of course one falls in the middle of the rec room. Of course we would not remove it without a proper inspection and advice. How much should I expect to pay for an engineer to come out and inspect and provide us with options?

The Latest Reply

As mentioned before, the home probably has the right number of beams. Here are a few things to consider: 1) Removing one beam means the other beam carries more weight. Is it big enough to carry the weight? 2) If the beam is supported by columns, are the pads below large enough to carry the weight? (You'll have to break the floor and check). 3) And will the longer spans on the floor joists be acceptable? For the cost of a site visit ($300) the engineer may be able to tell you quickly you can't do it. A full evaluation and permit drawings could reasonably cost $2K or more.

Mold removal
What are the best methods for removing mold and ensuring it does not return?

The Latest Reply

Hi Rilla, If the mould is dense and in an area larger then 1 meter square then as the other gentlemen stated you should look into professional help. There are many contractors and consultants that will be able to assist you. If its a small area then there is a product called microban. It is a waterbased chemical that won't harm the user and it says it won't stain. You can spray it with a simple water sprayer directly on the mould and it will kill it. If the mould keeps coming back then it is probably in your walls and all you are killing is the surface. You can also rent an air scrubber that will filter out the mould spores in the area. Hope this helps. Jay
