Johns Manville Siding
I am thinking of putting an offer on a house that is perfect for me. It is an older home, but it has John Mansville siding on it. The bank will only give me a mortgage if I have the siding removed, disposed of, and re-sided. I have no idea what the cost would be to do this. The house is a one floor bungalow and is about 1000 square feet.
Could someone please give me a ballpark rough estimate on what it would cost to remove and dispose of the existing siding?
Thank you.

Have you looked into putting another type of siding over top of it. I'm not positive but in some locations this is an acceptable solution. Asbestos removal can get very expensive, I'm sure you will be over 10K by the time your done. It's best to contact a removal company, they will be able to give you a better picture. The Latest Reply
Collar ties are designed to tie together the tops of opposing rafters. This helps brace the roof framing against uplift caused by wind. Collar ties must be placed in the upper third of the roof. Collar ties, contrary to popular belief, do not prevent walls from spreading. I would agree with getting a structural engineer out to tell you exactly what can be done. Be sure that the insulation is done properly with baffles right up to the roof for proper roof venting. I would also recommend installing a strip of ridge venting as well. Hope this helps. Mike
