Clint and his dad were referred to me through a friend. I needed work done in my basement. The plan was to install a sound proofed theatre room, a washroom and do the rough in for a bar and finish the rest of the area (carpet, tiles, drywall and etc). The project took roughly 6/7 weeks (expected) and the end product was fantastic. I would definitely recommend Clint and his father to anyone looking to get similar work done.

If you are looking for a company that does the following:
(1) only has one employee to do the work not what was said in initial interview upon being hired
(2) does not abide by the contract they signed and agreed upon
(3) lies and refusing to do the work unless the get more money
(4) leaves your place in a mess
(5) I'm basically being held hostage in my own bedroom because I have an unfinished basement
(6) respond to you when they feel like then they lie on top of that
When we hired Mitchell Developing we know that the cost was a bit high but we went with them knowing that they guarantee to have 2-3 employees a day in order to finish the job within our time-line, we could have gone with a cheaper company but was not guarantee to finish the work in time.
So far we only had one employee coming to do the work, several times we call Clint to make sure that they will be done on schedule and was always reassured that it will be done.....the only times we see Clint is when he wants more money from us so far he has received over $20,000 and all we have to show for it is unfinished drywall and an unfinished laminate floor and he's asking for more money otherwise he would not continue to do the work.
Needless to say I will be going to the Better Business Bureau and any other means I have available to me. I either want my money back or they finish the job. If anyone is looking to hire this company I strongly suggest you come and take a look at my basement or even take a look at my contract that was signed.
Tuesday, January 25, 2011 In response to Mr. Mitchell comments: We showed him and his one man crew the utmost respect and did not interfere with the work until we recognize despite his assurances to contrary (which can be proven with text messages) that the work would not be completed in time for our daughter christening on December 19, 2010 which he was aware of prior to being hired as that was one of our stipulations to hiring any contractor. (I interviewed 5 contractors which I will be calling as witness to what my stipulation was to being hired) Please contact me @ micsabjon@hotmail.com or (416) 948-5723 and I would be happy to forward you a copy of said contract that was signed by Mr. Mitchell and myself on November 16, 2010.
Mr. Mitchell was given $3500 in cash on November 16, 2010 at the signing of our contract for work to commence on November 17 and completed on December 13 as per contract. With regards to his comment about first cheque not being able to cash because of "INSUFFICIENT FUNDS" I find that statement very liable as Mr. Mitchell picked up said cheque on December 1, 2010 in the evening which was dated for December 1, 2010 as per our contract and the cheque was certified and cleared my account on December 2, 2010 (I would also provide bank records upon your request).
Mr. Mitchell is correct when he said he did not receive over $20,000.00 that is my error he received a total of $19,750.00 in total as follow: $3500 on signing of contract, $9500 on December 1 as per our contract and an additional $3000 on December 10 and $3500 on December 17 (all of which I would provide bank records upon your request) which I should not have given him the cheques on December 10 or 17 since that was not in our orignial contract.
I find Mr. Mitchell comments about us being in financial problem very laughable as whenever he asked for money it was always provided to him the next day. Case in point between December 1 and 17 he received a total of $16,000.00 mind you up until December 18 I had no problem with Mr. Mitchell at all as our text messages between myself and Mr. Mitchell would prove this point because we were assured completion of work. With regards to the place being left clean that is untrue as my dad, friends and myself cleared the basement to look presentable for my daughter's christening on December 19, 2010.
I would encourage anyone to contact Kevin the only employee who came to do the work and who commented about how the place was cleaned prior to him returning on December 20, 2010. It is my mistake I should have taken pictures prior to cleaning however I've attached some additional pictures of items we did not move out of the area.
I welcome anyone to attend our court hearing (I'm currently waiting for a court date - I would also post the date and location of trial when it becomes available to me) Mr. Mitchell failed to realize that all text messages he sent to myself and my husband will be shown in court as I indicated we had absolute no problem as we were always reassured work will be completed and that was why he wanted the extra funds to complete the job in time.
With regards to his comment about being on site 4 days a week that would also be proven false in court. I encourage Mr. Mitchell to list the dates and times he was on site between November 17 and December 18. His comment also about not being paid for the job on completion is highly untrue as I did not have a problem with Mr. Mitchell until December 18 when he text me additional lies...........I strongly encourage Mr. Mitchell to provide the proof that I or my husband said he would not get paid on the contrary we said "you should learn to abide by the contract you received above and beyond funds and as yet you have not delivered what you promise to do in your own messages to us".
As for my comment on completing the work yes I said THE FOLLOWING: I want the work to be completed as agreed upon in our contract, if YOU cannot complete the work THEN YOU are required to provide another company to come in and complete the work AND to pay all expenses that may incur for another company to come and complete what YOU should have done or YOU can give me my money back and I will find another company to do the work. AS I HAVE INDICATE BEFORE EVERY THING I'VE STATED CAN BE PROVEN AS THE TRUTH IN COURT BASED ON MR.MITCHELL OWN MESSAGES TO ME. I STRONGLY ENCOURAGE HIM TO LIST HOW I WAS RUDE AND DISRESPECTFUL TO HIM AND WHEN I SAID HE WOULD NOT GET PAID CONSIDERING HE RECEIVED A TOTAL OF $19,750 FOR A JOB THAT COST $22,750.00 AND THIS WAS BEFORE I HAD ANY PROBLEMS WITH THE LIES HE TOLD US.
Should anyone wish to contact me you can do so at micsabjon@hotmail.com or (416) 948-5723, I also encourage you to come and take a look at the job site.
Mitchell Developing added comments:
To our supporting clients,
This customer is down right rude and disrespectful. The job was going smooth until the client came in at the 3 week point of the job saying if the job is not done in 4 weeks he may just end up paying us “maybe sometime next year” because suddenly they have a family engagement so it has to be done at week four to accommodate guest.
At no time did I write in any contract that this project will be finished in four weeks because I am an experienced contractor and I know a 1000 sf basement can run from 4 to 6 weeks easily.
The first check I was paid I had problems getting the check cleared (INSUFFICIENT FUNDS). I was not given over 20,000.00.
At the three week point I am told suddenly, “if it is not finished at week 4 maybe sometime next year the job will be paid for”
How can you be paid over $20,000.00 on a basement reno and and all you have to show for it is unfinished drywall and an unfinished laminate floor. THAT IS NOT TRUE.
Framing, electrical, plumbing, flooring, HVAC, priming painting sanding, drywall has been done and as far as I’m concerned take a picture of the basement and see how clean it is. There is not one HEAVY DUTY GARBAGE BAG ON THAT JOBSITE.
She should take pictures, to prove this.
I cannot work without the floors being clean and I have a proven track record to back it. Cleanliness is the key to a project. I must be doing something right if I renewed my Handy Canadian membership again this year and have excellent reviews, references and a website to back it.
My testimonials come with pictures and positive testimony and feedback.
I was told by the client I may not pay till next year “maybe sometime next year”, if it isn’t finished in four weeks and I said well that cannot work, if that is the case we have to re-negotiate because I cannot work on those terms.
That is not being a liar or a cheat, that is being honest and up front. I am simply letting the client know how I feel about the comments regarding paying for the remainder of the project and how I feel discomforted regarding that statement.
At that point I lost my trust in these clients.
I don’t know if they are in any type of financial hardship, but all I asked them was to be upfront honest and let me know if they can afford to pay for the rest of this job or do they want to put it on hold until they can afford to pay for it.
As far as workers being on-site, I am the head foreman of my jobs I oversee my projects and I am on site a minimum 4 days a week I have my helpers and trades to perform each duty and or else I could not afford to be in business having one person performing all tasks i.e. plumbing, electrical, framing painting flooring carpentry?
IMPOSSIBLE. How can one person almost finish framing boarding, taping, wiring priming painting, plumbing, install flooring in a 1000 sf basement in 15 days???
I don’t need to lie nor cheat. Our work speaks for itself. QUALITY. We get the job done.
The house is approx 2800 sf not including the basement. In order to get into the basement you have to enter the laundry room through one door, continue 10ft then you enter another door which is the basement door. The laundry room and basement door are closed at all times while work is going on, and you have to walk down 16 flights of steps to get into the basement, so how can you be stuck in your room in a 2800 sf house because work is going on in a 1000 sf basement.
It does not make sense to me???
With this being said, I was told ““maybe sometime next year” and said I cannot accept that. I cannot work off of “maybe” being paid for my work; therefore I suggested we need to re-negotiate the terms if that is the case. Be honest with me; if you cannot afford to finish the job right away let me know.
I find the client to be very rude, intimidating and disrespectful and if I could turn back the clock I would have not done any work for them.
If the work was so bad and horrible why would she state:
“I either want my money back or they finish the job.”
Why would you want us to finish your job? We must be doing a good job and putting out quality work.
The crazy thing about it she said I leave the place in a mess and everything negative in her statements but yet says she wants me to finish the job.
Then she says:
“If anyone is looking to hire this company I strongly suggest you come and take a look at my basement”
So if your basement did not look good why would you say you want me to finish it? Wouldn’t you say I hate his work and I don’t want him to finish it, he is incapable to do the job?

I had Clint come in to put some stone on my fireplace, an 18 foot wall in my dining room and 3 pillars. I purchased the stone myself and Clint and his crew did the installation.
Firstly, they were very professional and did the job in a very tight deadline that I had provided them with. The people that were doing the work had exntensive expertise in the field of masonry and stone work. I'm very glad to have chosen Clint as my contractor.
He was very willing to work within my budget and provide the best service possible. I'm definitely looking forward to having Clint and his crew take care of more projects for me in the future. ie. Basement renovations, driveway landscaping and highly recommend him to other clients.
Thank you Clint for your hardowrk and making this project a success :)

I hired Clint to replace 2 windows in my basement. The job involved replacing the existing 12"x30" windows with 20"x30". Clint arrived within minutes of the agreed upon time and the work was completed in approximately 6 hrs. Considering that the job required him to cut the concrete, which produces a lot of dust, the workers left the job site quite clean and tidy. We've had 3 very heavy thunder storms since the job was completed and I'm confident that there are no leaks. I'm very happy with the job performed and would recommend Clint to anyone considering a similar job. Thanks Clint.

We hired Mitchell Developing for our kitchen tile removal project and we were extremely pleased with the results. They were on time and very experienced. The project was difficult as they had to remove tiles from around kitchen cabinetry and the island, but they did a fantastic job! The team was professional throughout the entire project, from the initial consultation to the final payment. I would definitely use Mitchell Developing for another one of my projects as well as pass their contact information onto my family and friends.

Clinton & his father did the work during the weekend so I didn't have to miss out any work, since I work from home. They were quick, pleasant and did an amazing job. One thing that everyone loved was how they split my connecting rooms so I could use two paint colours. They made their own crownmolding which complements both rooms and painted my railing white. Also, they cut a hole in my kitchen/dinning room wall to open my townhouse up. It looks AMAZING!
Thanks for all your hard work & REASONABLE rates... I look forward to my next project!

Mitchell developing supported me to complete my basement. This included framing in ductwork, drywalling, taping and painting. The work was impeccable. Their attention to quality and detail was outstanding. I was so pleased that I extended the contract to have them extend a hall closet.
Their budget was dead on. The project management was dead on. And they looked at my work as though it was their home. I would highly recommend Mitchell Developing for any project, and I will certainly be hiring them again.
