Residential Renovation Contractor in Mississauga, ON

We recently moved into a new home and decided to renovate the basement. We soon discovered that the previous owner had done such an atrocious/pathetic job on the basement (probably did it himself to save money) that the entire basement would need to be taken to point zero and then started again. I got around 5-6 different quotations and Bill Clawsie's was the most reasonable one. Not the lowest and not the highest, but reasonable! Another thing, talking to Bill, we (me and my wife) instantly felt that he knew what he was talking about and that we could trust him to complete this job properly. In short, hiring Bill for this job was the best decision we ever made. He worked very hard on making sure that everything was done properly and professionally and took care to incorporate each and everything we had asked for. There were times when we wanted to make changes in the original design and Bill always listened to us patiently and accommodated us. He also gave us good advice and guidance in areas where we didn't know much. A very important thing with Bill was that he left it to us to buy some of the key stuff for the basement like Wood Flooring, Bathroom sink and shower glass door and tiles etc. Many renovators don't allow you this choice and then charge you a big markup over the actual cost of the items. We were able to get exactly the quality material we wanted and at the best price that we could negotiate. Finally, the finished basement is a source of delight to all of my family and now we spend most of our leisure time in there. I would highly recommend Bill to anyone who is looking to renovate their basement. I have also included some before and after pictures to show the outstanding work that Bill did on our basement.

We hired Bill to renovate our 3 bathrooms, paint our bedroom and fix up several small items in preparation for selling our home. Bill arranged for the plumber to replace the sinks and toilets and everything was done on time and on budget. We had a very bad snow storm on the second day of the renovations and because of a recent illness I wasn't able to shovel the driveway so that my wife could get to the store. Bill and his assistant, Jeff kindly shoveled the driveway for us without us even asking. One of the sinks proved to be a challenge because the pieces did not fit correctly. Jeff was able to work around the problem and we're very pleased with the result. We won't hesitate to use Bill again and in fact, we have a couple of more items that we've asked him to complete for us. Throughout the process, Bill listened to our concerns about staying within budget and on time and he handled the entire job with courtesy and professionalism.

My husband and I are somewhat handy but never have we laid tiles so we wanted a professional to come in given the high traffic space we were looking to renovate (our front foyer).

We found Bill Clawsie (of Clawsie Contracting) and asked how he felt about this “small” job but that we also wanted to do the demolition. He didn’t blink or make us feel that he needed to do that part of the job. In fact, he gave my husband pointers as to what to do during the demolition to prep for his part of the project. We worked together to organize a quote/contract that we both agreed upon (leaving me feeling safe about the work he was about to do on our home) and within 4 days the job was complete, clean and looking great.

What really impressed me was that during the project Bill discovered that most of the remaining shower tiles that I ordered were broken and unusable. Even though they did not find a suitable match Bill was patient with me while, we waited for more tile to arrive from the supplier. When the tile arrived Bill had to make an extra trip back to my home to finish the job. He handled the situation well and was courteous. Clawsie Contracting recently completed 2 bathroom tiling renovations in my home. The work did not meet my standards or expectations and overall I am disappointed.

One of the tiles directly in front of the vanity has been incorrectly cut. Because the tile is not the right size it falls visibly short of the vanity. Although the contractor later tried to fix the mistake by filling the gap with additional grout, the offending tile is still noticeable.

There is a conspicuous gap along one wall where the new baseboard does not meet the tile. It is not acceptable for a professional contractor to consider his work complete and leave the clients home with his work in such a state. After some discussion the contractor suggested a fix, but all things considered I have opted to undertake a solution myself.

Another problem is that some tiles are not level which creates some disparity underfoot. The contractor was called back to inspect the uneven tiles but chose to do so without benefit of a level or a straight edge. I have stumbled on one particular tile several times. This is unacceptable, indefensible, and inexcusable. I most certainly expected better from a professional contractor. Over the years I have hired many contractors to do renovations and upgrades in my home, and until now, I have never had any problems.

Well Dear Reader, I have gained some valuable learning from this bump in the road. When I approach my next renovation I will carry out a complete due diligence before selecting a contractor. Also, I will be sure to get that service agreement and warranty in advance. Unfortunately in the case of Clawsie Contracting, the actual agreement and warranty were not presented until the day the work started. With this contractor it was necessary to be extremely specific about small details and capture everything in writing. A case in point is the area where the new tiles meet the existing carpet. A simple transition cap would have ensured a finished appearance. This however, was not specified in the service agreement and as such, has resulted in an unattractive, unfinished appearance. The contractor has referred me to the service agreement and has suggested that I "quit complaining". I have never had any such issues with other contractors who have laid flooring in my home. Clearly it cannot be overstated how important it is to make sure the contractor provides adequate time for the client to fully digest the contents of all documents that require signature. The learning from this negative experience will surely result in a better outcome for future renovations. The lesson of the day: Live and learn.

Bill uncovered a hole in the kitchen floor under the original vinyl and took care of it for us. Bill is very thorough and knowledgeable and we will definitely call him if we need any more work done.

Bill did a great job and was on schedule as per our requirements. Our basement was a complete disaster and after the completed work is now an awesome living space. The value for money is amazing. Clawsie contracting gave us a price that was a fraction of the other offers.

Clawsie contracting came into my home over the summer to re-tile my shower stall. Throughout the entire process Bill was upfront with costs and took the time to explain any complications that may arise. We hired Clawsie Contracting to do a second renovation for us. This time it was an existing basement bathroom, with some moisture issues. And with an older home and any renovation project, there were a few unexpected surprises once the work started. Bill ended up having to repair the concrete floor under the old shower and replace a framed wall due to mold problems. He was very reasonable with pricing the unforeseen work and fixed the problems in a short period of time. Also - during the rebuilding phase - Bill showed much more concern than I did about how solid the new walls and base were going to be for the custom shower that was going in. He wanted to do it right the first time and not have to return to repair broken tiles or grout lines. Due to his concern and effort, we now have a new huge custom shower stall - tiled floor to ceiling - and a basement bathroom that is no longer an eyesore or embarrassemnt. He was also very helpful with tile layout and arrangement ideas. In fact, I trusted him enough that I let him decide some of the final d�cor tile placement. His choices were much better than my simple layout attempts. Custom showers and bathrooms are one of his specialties. I look forward to using my new shower stall every morning when I wake up. We had a subfloor problem in one of our bathrooms which resulted in a toilet that leaked into the ceiling below. We called Bill, who was prompt and courteous and gave us a very good estimate of the work. His estimate and workmanship was consistent and timely. With his colleague Jeff, they completed a job beyond our expectation. He even installed a few small accessories @ our request without any problems. I'll definitely call him for future works. Kitchen Reno - August 2008

We took on a major renovation of our small kitchen this year.

There were many problems that needed to be fixed: plumbing and electrical; leveling the floor; heating; water/air venting; how to fit everything we wanted into the small space we had. The existing kitchen had to be torn out and replaced -- wiring, cabinets, the walls and the floor. We spent a lot of time finding the right contractor to do the work.

We hired Bill Clawsie of Reborn Renovations for several reasons. He was personable and easy to talk to. He listened to our ideas/concerns and was very clear about what his plans to address them would be. He gave us a written quote and a written contract with flexible payment options. We received the quote and contract in lots of time and we were able to review and change both to suit our needs.

Bill did everything that he said he would do. He even did a few small extras without changing his price. He planned out his work carefully, keeping us informed of his plans and progress. He was flexible when issues arose. We had to get the window company back to fix a crooked window. Bill and another contractor, (who was installing new roof shingles), worked together to get the new kitchen air vent installed.

We tore the old kitchen apart and Bill put it back together. He leveled the floor, installed ceramic tile, insulation and drywall; put in our new cabinets and dishwasher; fixed the plumbing and venting. And he did a great job with all of it.

Our new kitchen is great! Thanks to Bill, the whole project was a success.

I initially hired Bill (Reborn Renovations) to rebuild my front porch, after Bill provided a very reasonable quote. The quality and workmanship on the front porch were outstanding. Since I was very satisfied with his work on my front porch, I again hired Reborn Renovations to demolish a mudroom at the back of my house, and replace it with deck, and to install a wooden fence. Bill handled everything from demolition, to building/installing the new deck and fence, to full cleanup of the work area. Again, I was very pleased with the final result - Bill went out of his way to ensure the look and design of the back deck exceeded our expectations. I highly recommend Reborn Renovations for great workmanship, and reasonable prices.

I hired Bill Clawsie for my ijstalling a new Kitchenette in my already finished basement. The scope of work included hot/cold water lines, drain line, power line for electric range, build a wall with door in the rear of the basement, tiles in the kitchen area, floor cabinets and wall cabinets, sink and range hood & restoration of all breakups. He gave me a reasonable quote for this project though I had another quote from another contractor for almost $1000 less but I preferred to give contract to Bill due to his presentation and the way he explained the project to me.

He did all of this work quite satisfactorily and upto the required standard. Though he brought in an electrician to carry over power line since I required a certified electrician which he is not.

He is honest, punctual, qualified and knows his job very well. During this work, he also did some extra work for me without charging me for that. At the end my basement looks great and I give the credit to Bill Clawsie for his efforts and hardworking.

I will highly recommend Bill Clawsie (Reborn construction Inc.) to anyone who is looking for a contractor for such work he did for me.

I hired Bill Clawsie from Reborn Renovations to put up tiles in both of my washrooms. The two washrooms were right next to each other, with the tubs being right next to each other seperated by a wall. The wall had tiles on both sides - over time (35 years) the tiles fell off and the wall started deteriorating. Bill was recommended highly to me by my landlord, so I called him and he came down within a couple days of my call to give me a quote. It was a very reasonable quote, and he was able to start working soon after. When the initial work started it soon became apparent that this was going to be a much bigger jog than expected since the whole wall would have to come down and be completely rebuilt. The rebuilding of the wall was just as much work as putting up the tiles and Bill did all of this at the price of the original quote. After all of the work was done the washrooms looked great. I would definetely recomend Bill to any of my friend who need renovations done in their homes. And in the future I will definitely be calling him if any other work is needed.
