I am replacing the stair treads on interior stairs case with solid oak treads. I have heard that it is recommended to use the proper floating glue for this. I don't know what floating glue is and the few places i have gone to to check it out are not sure either. I don't want to do this job more than once, so any advice would be appreciated. |

pl premium is what i would recommend if you cant find it, the difference is the floating glue has more elasticity to it and is what you want for joining hard wood. since you are only putting down stair treads, pl premium will give you the strength you need to give maximum support of the step, and you probably dont need the elasticity because im assuming its one single board for you tread, meaning the board expands as one piece. hope this helps. |

Thank You Nick. PL Premium is what i ended up using. So far, so good. I did remove the old treads completely and replaced them with the one piece oak treads, however the original treads were 21/2" thick and the new oak treads were only 1". I made some shims for the new treads to fit into the stringers tight and glued and screwed everything together with new back risers. I hope i did it correctly. It feels pretty solid.

can't go wrong with a good glue and screw. |
