Hi,
I have a problem with a second floor bedroom floor which causes some noise when walking due to deflection of the floor. Currently the subfloor is OSB and I would like to know if installing Plywood over top of the OSB would make the floor more stiff and prevent the deflection noise. The room is about 16 feet by 14 feet and closet is about 4 feet by 4 feet. The noise is not from loose OSB subfloor as it has been re-screwed quite a few times by the builder and i've had a few contractors as well as builders advise the noise now is the deflection.
Will the Plywood over top of the OSB prevent the deflection noise?
How much will it cost to glue and screw plywood over top of the OSB and then reinstall the carpet back?

Hi Shaheed what those builders are telling you is crap i they always seem to take the easy way out once again no accountability listen i fix all these problems when i work for the builders i think you should look at taking up the floor where the noise is and check for improper nailing of bridging or cross joists not nailed properly in the joist hangers and then see if there proper support where the so called deflection is.

That is some good advice but I have fix some problems like this as well and sometimes it is not the deflection it is sometimes just air movement. I will give you an example: A customer was tierd of waking his son up in a bedroom below his master bedroom every time he got up and walked across the floor the son would wake up. He called me in and I took the floor up and reinstalled it waste of time. same problem the next week. So we removed the ceiling in the boys room and what we notice was even though I used long screws the would was not in fact even moving the air between the drywall downstairs and the floor was moving. in fact some of the joists did move. So what I did was use spray foam under the wood you see spray foam works as a sound proof material and it makes the area air tight.
