Project Description: Old house in Halifax's Hydrostone area (90 yrs old approx). Detached, 1.5 storey. Basement is approx. 16' x 30' and has (in my opinion) inadequate structural posts/jack posts holding up the house - but I could be wrong. I believe the inspector said that there was one post under the stairs holding up everything. If you were to drop marbles on the floor upstairs, they roll to one corner of the house. I would like to renovate my upstairs with new tile in the bathroom and new hardwood everywhere else, but before I do this, I would like to ensure that the house isn't going to settle any further (causing new tile to crack, etc). I need someone to assess the situation in the basement and make recommendations - and then possibly fix it. Thanks!

Project Description: I'm looking at putting a glass door at the start of my hallway upstairs to help block the noise from the rest of the house. The hallway will require a header/framing and finishing trim to match the rest of the house. I have not seen this before in a split level so I'm unsure if code would allow this. Project Description: We'd like to add 9 inches of blown-in insulation to the existing insulation in our attic (to meet the EcoEnergy Grant requirements). The attic is approximately 24 x 24 feet. The hatch is in a closet, and we would need to build a wooden box around the hatch before insulating. Please provide a quote for installation, as well as possible dates you are available to do the work. If you need to come by for the estimate, please contact me. We need to have the work completed by the end of February. Our home is about 70 years old.
