Project Description: We had an Eco-Energy Audit done yesterday. We have a 1600 sq ft. two storey detached home that was built in the mid 60's. The audit recommended increasing the attic insulation (loose fiberglass), plastic cover for 3 pot lights exposed in attic, upgrading the second floor bathroom ceiling fan (there is already duct work in place that vents to the roof) and basement bathroom ceiling fan. It also recommends replacing 4 toilets. Depending on cost, I would replace 2 toilets and purchase them myself. Project Description: On Feb 6th, we noticed water marks on our dining room table. Our master bathroom is above the dining room, we called a plumber, the seal on the toilet was broken; it has since been replaced and fixed. Project Description: I am looking for a quote to excavate along the north side of a house (I think it’s around 32’ long) and apply a waterproofing solution to the foundation. But first, some history: the house is approximately 40 years old, in the Stanely Park area of Kitchener. The basement has let water in before, always on the same side of the house, and only on that side. The foundation is concrete block, with no evidence of an external waterproofing system of any kind. 4-5 years ago the basement was flooded by water coming in from the back yard during a flash-melt. The water quite literally came down the back stairs in over the doorstep. To solve for this I built a berm around the property perimeter, and directed a downspout into a 4" drain pipe I dug into the ground, emptying it into a 4' diameter dry well I dug about 20 feet away from the foundation (about 4 feet deep). This appears to have solved the problem, but it is possible the water from the downspout is escaping the pipe and emptying along the foundation. 3-4 years ago I noticed water coming in under one of the 2 basement windows on the north side of the house. I excavated under that window and found some cracks 4-5 feet down. I applied an exterior sealant (can't remember the product name, but it mixed up like mortar) and to my knowledge water has not come in the same spot since then. At that time I also dug in a window well for each window as they are both right at grade level. March 2011 there was again water in the basement, same side of the house (north side), but toward the back of the house instead of the front. I removed a closet, and found a 1" diameter hole in the concrete floor. I contracted Wisecracks to fill the hole - this seemed to work well. Last week the tenant in the basement called to say there was water entering the unit again. I called Wisecracks to check their repair, but they said it was fine. The water is coming in somewhere else. Because the water is only in the back of the house, I don’t think it is coming in under the front window. However, I do suspect that water is entering along multiple points in the concrete cinderblock. I am looking for a quote to excavate along the north side of the house (approximately 32’ long) and apply a waterproofing solution. Other optional services would be to confirm the weeping tile along the footing is not compromised, and to scope the drain at the bottom of the external staircase (that *should* feed into the weeping tile) to find out if it is ok.
